How Much Brass Weight Should You Add to a TRX-4 Sport?
Brass can be useful, but weight is not a score. The goal is a truck that stays composed on your terrain without becoming slow, hard on components, or reluctant to change direction.
Why low-mounted weight can help
Weight placed low can lower the center of gravity and influence front-to-rear balance. The effect depends on where the mass sits, the total vehicle weight, the body, the wheel and tire setup, and the slope or obstacle.
Why more can be worse
Additional mass increases the work required from the steering, motor, brakes, gears, shafts, bearings, and tires. It can reduce agility, make tumbles more energetic, and shorten run time. Rotating weight has different effects from non-rotating chassis or axle weight.
Begin with the stock truck
Record the truck configuration and drive it before adding weight. If rollovers come mainly from poor line choice, tire grip, sudden steering, or a tall accessory load, brass may not address the real cause.
Add one change at a time
- Measure the current total weight and, if possible, front/rear balance.
- Select the smallest change that addresses the observed problem.
- Install it symmetrically unless the setup has a deliberate reason not to.
- Recheck steering movement, clearances, fasteners, and temperatures.
- Drive the same type of terrain and document the trade-off.
Front bias is not a universal answer
A front-biased crawler may climb differently, but excessive front weight can affect descending, steering effort, and how the rear follows. The right balance depends on terrain and driving style.
Questions a good product page should answer
- How much mass is added and where?
- Is it rotating or non-rotating?
- What vehicle configuration was tested?
- What hardware and tools are required?
- Does it affect clearance or service access?
- What steering or drivetrain trade-offs were observed?
RCGarageX will not recommend brass simply because it is metal. Our Stage 2 stability approach starts only after grip, wheel fitment, and the truck’s real balance problem are understood.
